Acceptable Use Policy
Draft for review. This document has not been reviewed by a lawyer and is not legal advice.
Effective date: [EFFECTIVE DATE]
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") explains what you may and may not do with GoSent, the email sending and verification service operated by [LLC NAME] ("GoSent", "we", "us"). It is part of our Terms of Service. GoSent's sending infrastructure is shared, so one sender's bad practices can hurt delivery for everyone. These rules exist to keep mail from every GoSent customer reaching the inbox.
1. Who this applies to
This AUP applies to every account holder, team member and anyone who uses your API keys or SMTP credentials. You are responsible for all traffic sent from your account, including traffic from your own customers if your application sends email on their behalf.
2. Transactional email only on shared IPs
GoSent is built for transactional email: messages a recipient expects because of an action they took or a relationship they have with you. Examples include receipts, invoices, password resets, sign-in and verification codes, account and security alerts, subscription and billing notices, and onboarding messages after sign-up.
You may not use shared sending IPs for bulk marketing, newsletters, promotional campaigns or cold outreach. A transactional message may contain a small amount of related promotional content only where the law treats its primary purpose as transactional. If you want to send other kinds of email, contact support@gosent.io before you start; we may require a dedicated IP and an additional review, or we may decline.
3. Recipients and lists
- Send only to people who gave you their address directly and who expect to hear from you.
- Do not use purchased, rented, traded, shared, scraped, harvested or appended lists, or addresses generated by guessing or dictionary techniques.
- Do not send to role or distribution addresses (such as a company's sales@ address) unless that address belongs to your customer and asked for the message.
- Honor unsubscribe and opt-out requests promptly and in line with the law. Where the law requires an unsubscribe link, include one that works.
- Remove addresses that hard bounce or complain. GoSent automatically suppresses these addresses; do not try to work around the suppression list.
- Be able to show, on request, how each recipient came to be on your list.
4. Sender identity and authentication
- Send only from domains you own or are authorized to use, and verify each domain with SPF, DKIM and DMARC records as shown in the dashboard.
- Use accurate From, Reply-To and header information. Do not forge headers, spoof other senders, or hide the origin of a message.
- Subject lines must not be misleading about the content of the message.
- Include your business name and a valid postal address where the law requires it.
5. Prohibited content and uses
You may not use GoSent to send, link to, or promote:
- phishing, credential harvesting, or impersonation of another person, brand or organization;
- malware, viruses, or links to sites that distribute them;
- content that is illegal where it is sent or received, or that facilitates illegal activity;
- fraud, scams, deceptive offers, get-rich-quick or pyramid schemes, and multi-level marketing recruitment;
- cryptocurrency or investment scams, unregistered securities offerings, and fake giveaways;
- adult or sexually explicit content, or escort and dating services of an adult nature;
- any material that sexually exploits or endangers children;
- gambling, betting or lottery services unless you hold, and can show us, a valid licence for every location you serve;
- unlicensed pharmaceuticals, controlled substances, or unapproved health claims;
- payday loans, debt collection on behalf of third parties, and credit repair services;
- harassment, threats, hate speech, or content that incites violence;
- content that infringes intellectual property or privacy rights; and
- list brokering, or selling fake reviews, followers or other engagement.
We may add categories to this list as new abuse patterns appear. When in doubt, ask support@gosent.io before sending.
6. Email verification rules
Use email verification only for addresses of people who have a real relationship with you, for example to check an address at sign-up or to clean an existing customer list. You may not use verification to clean, test or "warm up" purchased, rented, scraped or appended lists, or to prepare any list for unsolicited email. You may not use verification to discover or guess addresses. We may stop processing any upload that appears to break these rules.
7. Bounce and complaint thresholds
We monitor every account's sending statistics. Keep your account within these limits, measured over a rolling window of recent sends:
- Bounce rate: below 4% of messages sent.
- Spam complaint rate: below 0.08% of messages sent (fewer than 8 complaints per 10,000 messages).
If your account goes above either limit, GoSent may automatically pause sending without prior notice. We will tell you why and what we need from you, such as an explanation of the cause, a cleaned list, or changes to how you collect addresses. We may also act on other signs of poor list quality, such as hits on spam traps, blocklist listings or sudden unexplained volume increases. Repeated or severe breaches may lead to suspension or termination.
8. Platform integrity
- Do not create multiple accounts to avoid limits, free-tier allowances or enforcement.
- Do not try to bypass sending limits, rate limits, account review or suppression lists.
- Do not probe, attack or overload GoSent's systems, or use the Service to attack anyone else's.
- Keep API keys and SMTP credentials secure; compromised credentials used to send abuse are still your responsibility.
9. Compliance with law
You must comply with every law that applies to your email and data, including CAN-SPAM, CASL, GDPR and UK GDPR, the CCPA, and similar laws in your recipients' locations. You are the sender of your messages and the controller of your recipients' data.
10. Enforcement
If we believe you have broken this AUP, we may, depending on the severity and your cooperation:
- contact you and ask you to fix the problem;
- lower your sending limits or pause sending;
- remove or block specific messages, templates or domains;
- suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice; and
- report illegal activity to the appropriate authorities and cooperate with lawful investigations.
Accounts terminated for abuse are not eligible for refunds, and pauses caused by AUP breaches do not earn credits.
11. How to report abuse
If you received unwanted email, phishing or other abusive messages sent through GoSent, send a report to abuse@gosent.io. Please include:
- the full message with its original headers (in most mail apps, "Show original" or "View source");
- the date and time you received it; and
- a short description of the problem.
Forwarding the message as an attachment preserves the headers best. We review every report, may suspend the sending account while we investigate, and will not share your identity with the sender without your permission unless the law requires it. To report a security vulnerability in GoSent itself, write to support@gosent.io.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this AUP to respond to new abuse patterns or legal requirements. We will post updates on this page and notify customers of material changes by email or in the dashboard.
